HEALTH
Many of our health education and physical education standards require that students talk with another, sometimes about difficult topics. Adults often expect students to “go talk it out” without the students having the necessary skills. This session will focus on ways to help students identify their feelings, create appropriate responses for a variety of situations, and use refusal skills when necessary.
(Due to technical difficulties, this video is not available. Our apologies.) FOUNDATIONS
It goes without saying that our health and physical education community faced unprecedented challenges in teaching and meeting needs this past year. But despite the immense challenges and hardships, we heard about success stories and positive outcomes at times, too. This session will examine those stories and aspects from the point of view of several state HPE leaders and the CEO of SHAPE America, as well as explore the future of our community and the role HPE professional organizations must play moving forward, as we move past the pandemic.

10:00am-10:45am BREAKOUT SESSIONS
ELEMENTARY
My session will cover how to create DIY PE games and activities using household items. My plan for this session is to show the group how to create 6+ DIY games using just a water bottle, hat, pair of socks, and a basket. My goal is to inspire other to create fun and engaging games for their learners using household items.
Kids and teachers alike are coming back to school with varying levels of trauma that needs to be acknowledged and addressed. This session will give participants the WHAT, WHY and HOW to explain how to integrate Social and Emotional Learning into their PE curriculum. These tips and tricks have been utilized firsthand (by me!) at the Middle School level and can be modified to accommodate older/younger learners.
